Paras Singhvi is New Mayor of Udaipur
BJP's Paras Singhvi secured a total of 55 votes while Congress mayoral candidate Poonam Kunwar Rathore got 25 votes
UdaipurTimes, Sept 21, 2026 - BJP's Paras Singhvi has been elected as Mayor of the seventh board of the Udaipur Nagar Nigam. Voting and counting of votes for the post were completed before 2:00 pm today, September 21.
Singhvi and Rathod were locked in a direct contest for the mayoral post. Singhvi secured a total of 55 votes, while the Congress mayoral candidate, Poonam Kunwar Rathore, got 25 votes. The majority mark for the post of Mayor in the 80-ward Nagar Nigam was 41 votes which Singhvi surpassed by 14 votes.
Both the parties had brought their councillors directly to the Nagar Nigam amid cross-voting concerns. BJP corporator Yashwant Anchalia was the first to cast his vote.
Apart from the 53 BJP councillors, two Independent councillors also voted in favour of Singhvi. Rathore received the votes of 23 Congress councillors, one Independent councillor and one CPI (M) councillor of the total of all 80 councillors who voted.
Among those present during the voting were MP Dr Manna Lal Rawat, Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, BJP district president Gajpal Singh Rathore and other party leaders.
Earlier, on Sunday, all BJP councillors were explained the process of voting by ballot paper. Apprehending cross-voting, the BJP had kept its councillors at a resort on the Nathdwara highway and also took them for darshan of Kesariyaji and Jawar Mata.
Despite having fewer councillors, Congress had claimed there would be cross-voting within the BJP.
According to sources, the name of Dinesh Bhatt from the BJP is almost certain for the post of Deputy Mayor.
