A board meeting of the Garage Committee- Municipal Council (Nagar Parishad) Udaipur was held today in Morning.

Various proposals and decisions for the development of the city were taken by the committee president and committee members.

There were 5 main agendas, out of them 2 were considered major proposals by committee members.

One was regarding the insurance of a person who dies in a mishap in lakes. Under the prevailing rules, if a foreign national dies in a boat accident, he is compensated with Rs. 20 Lacs, while, if an Indian tourist faces the same accident, he is eligible for a compensation of Rs. 5 lacs only.

Committee member Ayub Khan objected on this indiscrimination. Ayub khan, member of the opposition and councilor of ward-38 demanded to equalize the compensation amount for both Indian and Foreign tourists.

Another big and only decision taken today was regarding the rescue diver Chotu Bhai ,who is ailing from a fatal kidney problem while his finances being not good. The municipal council has decided to help chotu bhai with Rs. 5 lacs for his medical expenses.

Chotu bhai (in photo) has worked for more than 20 years as a professional diver, rescuing hundreds of people from drowning , he also helped finding dead bodies drowned in the lakes and rivers.

It is alleged that chotu bhai’s kidney failure is a result of his hard work without any sophisticated gadgets and costumes which is a pre requisite in such a dangerous job. In today’s board meeting, the committee has also decided to provide proper diving costumes to all other divers of corporation.

In an agenda to gear up the fire brigade service in Udaipur, a number of sophisticated equipment are going to be added. A proposal to purchase equipment like digi set and fire water mist that will replace the old tools was also put forward.

Regarding the new boating contract proposal in Lake Pichola the committee president Manohar Singh Pawar said ‘We are going to take out new tenders for boating and this time the criteria will be rigid and the council we will consider only those boating contractors who follow our terms.

He added,”Life jackets, Oxygen cylinders and Search lights are compulsory equipment we want the bidders to have.”

This committee meeting was held after 6 months, the last meeting held on 20-01-2011.
