Pedal boats to operate in Udaipur’s Gulab Bagh
Enjoy the beauty of Lotus pond, Gulab Bagh in pedal boats.
Gulab Bagh is one of the most beautiful gardens of Udaipur city. To make this garden more appealing for the tourists, it has been decided to run pedal boats in the Lotus pond (Kamal talai) of Gulab Bagh.
Municipal Corporation will give out contracts for pedal boats. Tender process has commenced on the basis of Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT). The proposal for the development of Lotus pond was given during the year 2007-08. In a session held during this period, Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria has suggested to operate pedal boats. He had also suggested a fountain in the shape of lotus to increase the beauty of this pond. In 2008, foundation was laid for the fountain but the lotus design could not be implemented for some reasons and a different design for the fountain was finalised. In 2014, development works had started but pedal boat operation was not finalised. Now that the proposal has been approved, the rose garden will have an additional attraction for public and tourists.
The pedal boats will be similar to the boats operating in Sukhadia Circle. Contract period for the pedal boats will be 15 years. 4 pedal boats (2 boats will be 2-seater and 2 will be 4-seater) will operate in Lotus pond. Fare for Indians has been decided at 50 rupees/20 min. for 2-seater and 100 rupees for 4-seater boats. For foreign nationals the fare will be 100 rupees and 200 rupees respectively. The fares will increase @ 10 percent/year.
As per the conditions of the contract, food court will also be developed near the Lotus pond. Tenders are likely to be opened by 27th August. Tenders have also been invited for the operation of new trains in Gulab Bagh.
Fares for trains will be as follows:
Indians- 25 rupees for children between 3 to 12 years of age, 50 rupees for 12+ age, no charges for under 3 yrs of age.
Foreigners- 50 rupees for children between 3 to 12 years, 100 rupees for 12+.
A station will be made near the main gate of Gulab Bagh. The train will also halt for 5 minutes near food court. This will enable people to avail the benefit of train ride after boat ride in Lotus pond.
