Nearly hundred people from a specific community protested today against the alleged misbehavior of resident doctors with a patient’s relatives at M.B Hospital 4 days ago on 17 th June 2011 as reported by Udaipur Times. Demanding the strict actions against the wrongdoers, people protested in front of Collector’s Office today at 11:00 am. They also submitted a memorandum to the district collector in the name of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot. People Protest against Resident Doctors Community members of Chaudhary Mewara Kalal gathered outside the collector’s office today regarding the incident which occurred on 17 th June when a few resident doctors were involved in beating relatives of the patient inside M.B. Hospital which injured them and forced them to leave the hospital. The social body “Chaudhary Mewara Kalal Samaj Seva Sansthan” has demanded the suspension of the doctors involved in the mishap. They also accused senior doctor D.P. Singh -H.O.D (medicines) for the whole incident, who intentionally overlooked the serious condition of admitted patient Chogalal Chaudhary, misbehaved with patient’s relatives and instructed junior doctors to carry out the whole thrashing episode, as mentioned in the three page memorandum by the Kalal Samaj. The series of related incidents have been reported in past too. Often, resident doctors at M.B Hospitals were involved in beating, abusing and taking violent actions against patients and their relatives. If a victim tries to file a case against doctors, hospital authorities would turn the incident in their own favor by accusing the patients of “preventing government employees from working”, as mentioned in the memorandum. Dr. D.P Singh was unavailable for comment at the time; although a senior doctor spoke under condition of anonymity said “It is not only resident doctors to blame every time. It is important to understand that these junior doctors are also human being and they work for 12-18 hours every day under pressure of senior doctors and patients too. There are many cases when patients or their relatives try to overpower these doctors by introducing themselves as being from a “powerful background”. This does not justify the actions of the resident doctors but it is important for people and the authorities to keep this fact in mind.” The protesting people also demanded for Rs. 75,000 for operation which they paid in a private hospital after they were thrown out of M.B. Hospital.
