Udaipur ranked 32 in the progress report upto November, laid by the Directorate of Medical, Health and Family Welfare services. Rajsamand stood at 29th position in the state list while Banswara and Dungarpur were at 26th and 19th ranks respectively.
Upset by the poor show of the medical department in fulfilling the targets, Udaipur Collector issued instructions to the Health wing to chalk out an action plan at the earliest.
At those primary health centers where number of deliveries is found below 10 cases, staff salary will be withheld, came the warning.
Statistics from the National Family Health Survey-3 indicated Rajasthan to be among the low performing states in terms of institutional deliveries with the 19th position in All India ranking with a mere 32 percent of institutional deliveries in the state.
Janani Suraksha Yojana, launched in 2005 aimed to decrease the neo-natal and maternal death rate by promoting institutional delivery of babies. The centrally sponsored scheme provides cash assistance of Rs. 1,400 to each pregnant woman who delivers at state medical centers.
The ASHA activists are also paid Rs. 600 per case to encourage institutional deliveries among poor women. However, despite all the efforts, desired results have not been obtained so far.
In Udaipur, against the annual target of 95,133 cases upto March 2014, only 38,253 deliveries have been registered in Government hospitals and Dispensaries, which accounted to 40% of the target up till November 2013. The figure was observed to 7 percent below the targets achieved in 2012.
Rajsamand district achieved 48% of its target with 16,189 institutional deliveries. Pratapgarh district scored best of the lot with 63 percent achievement of annual target upto November. It ranked 4th in the state while Chittorgarh stood second with accomplishment of 55.51 percent of target.
