The BJP led nationwide shutdown remained successful with the extension of support by many other political parties opposing the steep hike in petrol price announced recently.

Udaipur, by and large, remained quiet barring some forceful closure of banks & shops and minor tussles between rickshaw/bus drivers and BJP activists when the latter used force to get the passengers off-board. At a few other places, the bandh supporters expressed their opposition by burning tyres and other scrap.

District BJP supremo Gulab Chand Kataria with members of the party rallied across the city and appealed people to support the bandh against government policies. Municipal Council Chairperson Rajni Dangi also led the protest with other female activists. Udaipur’s business areas including Bapu Bazaar, Surajpol, Delhi gate, Bada Bazaar, Dhan Mandi etc also remained completely closed. “The bandh was very successful”, said Chamber of Commerce’s Paras Singhvi. However, the strike against petrol price was not successful at all places. Few places including Zawar Mines area, Pahada Village and Jalara Village remained largely unaffected due to no movement of BJP in these areas. [Photos] Bandh Gets Support
