Udaipur, March 22, 2025 - Large trees growing on the walls of Badi Pal and Swaroop Sagar in Pichola Lake are weakening the dam structure. Their spreading roots are causing damage, and water leakage has also been reported. The walls of Badi Pal and Swaroop Sagar have big trees growing on them. Their roots are spreading and weakening the structure. If not removed in time, the walls may face serious damage.
Former member of the Lake Development Authority, Tej Shankar Paliwal, informed that a survey has been proposed for these dams. However, the work has not started yet. He also emphasized the urgent need to remove the trees from the walls.
During the rainy season, a large amount of soil enters Pichola Lake through the Sisarma River from the Nandeshwar Dam. This is causing the lake to shrink every year. Experts suggest that soil removal from the Nandeshwar Dam is necessary to prevent further shrinkage of Pichola Lake.
