February 13, 2025 - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Washington DC this morning on his two-day trip to the United States. During the visit, Modi will hold talks with US President Donald Trump, the first bilateral talks between the two after Trump was sworn in as President of the country last month. Modi is the fourth foreign leader to visit the US after Trump became President, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Modi arrived in the US on completion of his two-day visit to France where he addressed the AI Action Summit and took part in the 14th India-France CEOs Forum which discussed economic and technological cooperation.

On arrival at the Blair House, the Presidential guest house where he will be staying, Modi was given a rousing welcome by the Indian diaspora despite freezing temperatures and chilling rain.

He held talks with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in Washington and  discussed enhancement of intelligence co-operation and counter-terrorism measures.

The White House has said that President Trump and PM Modi will hold a joint press conference when they meet today, which is set for 1710 ET (03:40 am IST). This will be a rare press briefing by Modi who is known to avoid taking questions from the press other than select interviews.

India's talk agenda is likely to include pre-empting of any trade action by the US against it. Trump’s hardline stance on tariffs has already sent shockwaves and ignited trade war fears across the world. Discussions are also expected on key areas such as two-way trade, energy, defence, investment, technology as well as immigration. The Indian PM is scheduled to meet billionaire Elon Musk and other business leaders at the White House.
