PM Modi Inaugurates Northeast’s First Emergency Airstrip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Northeast India’s first emergency landing facility in Assam’s Dibrugarh district and unveils major infrastructure projects including a six-lane Brahmaputra bridge

Feb 14. 2026 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (February 14) inaugurated Northeast India’s first emergency landing Facility (ELF) on Moran Bypass in Assam. The airstrip in Dibrugarh district has been developed at a cost of around Rs 100 crore and will have dual strategic use – for both military and civil operations.

ELF is a 4.2-km reinforced stretch on National Highway 37 and has been built in collaboration with the Indian Air Force to support emergency landings and take-offs of military and civillian aircraft.

PM Modi landed at the ELF onboard an Indian Air Force C-1307 aircraft from Chabua airbase before witnessing an aerial display involving transport aircraft and fighter jets.

Additionally, the Prime Minister  inaugurated a six-lane bridge on the Brahmaputra River in the State – Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu. This Rs 3,030-crore bridge will connect Guwahati with North Guwahati.

While on his visit to the State today, the Prime Minister also virtually unveiled IIM Guwahati and a National Data Centre apart from flagging off 225 electric buses - 100 for Guwahati, 50 each for Nagpur and Bhavnagar and 25 for Chandigarh - under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme.
