Demanding appointment of more sweepers in the city, the associations of sweepers continued their protest and demonstration outside Udaipur Municipal Corporation’s office. Under the banner of Valmiki Samaj, the members conducted “yagya” to highlight their cause.
According to protestors, the city requires over one thousand additional sweepers to keep the city clean. However, UMC is not making fresh recruitments despite a lot of applications for the same.
There are 55 wards in the city with 600 permanent sweepers and 350 on contract basis. There is an additional requirement of 1050 more sweepers.
Protestors said that they have laid a protest outside UMC since last 10 days but every day the officials are just giving false assurance and no positive action has been taken yet.
Local area corporator, Kajal Adiwal, who is supporting the cause, said that, “the protest will continue till UMC does not give appointment letters for additional appointments.”
