Bank Strike Sept 28-30: PSU Banks Waive ATM Fee Above Free Limit

UdaipurTimes, Sept 26, 2026 - Public Sector (PSU) banks have announced a waiver of charges on ATM transactions exceeding the free transaction limit during the three-day bank strike from September 28, 2026.
State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, Indian Bank, and several other PSU banks have taken this decision thus allaying concerns of customers about the monthly free limit prescribed under Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.
Bank of Baroda wrote on its X handle, “Your convenience remains our priority. From 28th to 30th September 2026, ATM transaction charges are waived for customers at any bank’s ATM across India.”
A nationwide bank strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30. The primary demand of the UFBU, which claims to represent 90 per cent of bank employees in the country, is for a five-day banking week. The strike is expected to significantly affect banking services.
Under the existing rules, Savings Account holders are entitled to five free ATM transactions per month at their own bank’s ATMs. Free transactions at other banks’ ATMs are three per month in six metropolitan cities (Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad) and five in non-metropolitan cities.
Once the free transaction limit is exhausted, banks charge customers up to Rs 23 per transaction as additional fee.
