A sudden anti-encroachment operation was started today by Udaipur’s Municipal Council (Nagar Parishad) in different areas of the city.

The revenue department of the Municipal Corporation launched the operation today against the encroachment done by shopkeepers in different areas of the city such as Chetak Circle, Court Circle, Delhi Gate, Bapu Bazaar and the areas in and around Suraj Pol. The corporation undertook the operation by confiscating furniture, flex banners and boards which were placed outside the shops by the anti-encroachment teams

In response, the shopkeepers of the city condemned the action and staged protests against the corporation especially around the Asthal Mandir area where the corporations faced severe public anger.

Encroachment has always been a common problem in the city of lakes. Its Municipal Corporation has always tried to eliminate the problem but was unsuccessful due to their policies and loose strategies.

According to a journalist who was on the scene, on having his goods seized by the anti-encroachment teams, a man taunted one of the officers by saying “Rather than indulging yourself in insignificant projects, do something big to help the city.”

It is obvious from the man’s statement that the people do not see encroachment as an illegal activity and that the administration has so far failed to clear the issue.
