India and Qatar are in talks for a major defense partnership that could see India acquiring 12 used Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets from Qatar. This development signifies a significant progression in enhancing both defense and diplomatic relations between the two nations.

On June 21, representatives from Qatar engaged in discussions with Indian defense officials in New Delhi. At the meeting, Indian officials were briefed extensively on the current condition and capabilities of the 12 Mirage 2000-5 jets. These discussions take place amid a significant diplomatic milestone for India: the successful release of eight former Indian naval personnel who were detained in Qatar on charges related to espionage.
