All protesting MPs wear black jackets which read 'Modi Adani Ek Hai' and 'Adani Safe Hai'
December 5, 2024 – Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi led a protest outside the Parliament this morning demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation into the US indictment of Indian businessman Gautam Adani. He was joined in the protest by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and other MPs from the Opposition party.
The protesting MPs wore black half jackets with stickers which read Modi Adani Ek Hai and Adani Safe Hai. They alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ties with the billionaire businessman have proved a roadblock for an impartial and fair investigation into the charges of bribery and fraud against Adani, who is the founder and chairman of Adani Group.
Rahul Gandhi said: “Modi ji can't get Adani ji investigated because if he does that, he would be getting himself investigated...Modi aur Adani ek hain. Do nahi hain, ek hain."
"The basic issue of this country is that the entire wealth of this country is going to only one man. That man is actually in total corruption. An American court has given summons to him and said corruption happened in India. However, Parliament is not ready to discuss," Congress MP KC Venugopal told reporters.
Yesterday, too, a protest was held by MPs of the Congress, AAP, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), DMK and the Left parties at Makar Dwar of the Parliament. The protestors held a banner saying "Modi-Adani Are One". TMC was absent from the Opposition protest.
