Rajasthan Crisis Update: HC defers order on writ petition by dissident Congress MLAs to 24 July

The decision on the writ petition filed by Sachin Pilot and the rebel MLAs challenging their disqualification from the legislative assembly will be given on Friday, 24 July. The Rajasthan High Court has also sent a request to the Speaker, asking him to defer the disqualification till 24 July.

Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the dissident camp argued that there was nothing on record to show that the LA Speaker applied his mind while serving disqualification notices to Sadhin Pilot and dissident MLAs. He further argued that the MLAs were given a shorter notice than allowed as per the rules and there was no reason on record for the disqualification.

The bench had earlier already noted that the whip cannot be issued for any other party meet apart from an Assembly session. The MLAs were also given time till 5;30pm on 22 July to submit their response.
