Terming the call for a high court bench in Udaipur as illegitimate, members of Rajasthan High Court Advocate association have said that they will be raising a protest against the demand. The members threatened that Jodhpur High Court seat and the Jaipur bench will protest against this and will even sit on a hunger strike if need arose.

Ranjeet Joshi, President of the Rajasthan High Court Advocate association said that it was decided at the time of State recognization that the State capital will be in Jaipur and High Court in Jodhpur. High Court bench was established in Jaipur in 1977 during emergency. He said that protest is still being raised about Jaipur bench and there has been a demand for unified High Court. He said that the demand for Circuit bench in Udaipur is only for political gains and the advocates will lose from this.

Ranjeet said that just like Udaipur is demanding a high court bench, there could be a demand for Supreme Court bench in Jodhpur – but this is not feasible.

Ranjeet warned that if demand for Udaipur bench is taken up by the Government then the advocates of association would protest, boycott work and even sit on a hunger strike, if required.
