Udaipur, April 13, 2026 -  The death toll in Rajasthan owing to the mysterious illness has reportedly now risen to 13 with the demise of a six-year-old girl in Bhugabhatt village of Gram Panchayat Bharkundi on Sunday (April 12) morning.

The deaths reported so far are seven in Lasadiya of Salumbar district and six in Parsola of Pratapgarh district

Administrators Narayanlal Meena of Ambav and Shankarlal Meena of Lohagarh from the Dhariyawad subdivision of Pratapgarh district, reportedly said that around 15 days ago, two children died in Dholi Magri and two in Mahudi Kheda, cases which are still not even in the records of the medical department. There was another death from this mysterious illness on Saturday, too.

Additionally, seven deaths have been earlier reported from Lasadiya tehsil of Salumbar district.

The local MLA has written a letter to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma demanding an investigation into the matter.

Regarding the mysterious illness and deaths in Dhariyawad block, centre in-charge Dr Jitendra Bagadia said that information is being sought from higher authorities. The Health Department has started a door-to-door survey in the sub-division.

Earlier, mosquito-borne viral encephalitis (brain infection) or a Chandipura virus variant was suspected to be the reason behind the illness and deaths. However, lab confirmation is still pending. Samples have been collected and sent for testing.
