Rajasthan has set a new record for monsoon rainfall this year, surpassing the previous record of 664mm from June 1 to September 15, 1975. This year, the state has received an average of 668.5mm of rain up to Saturday, September 14.

According to Radhey Shyam Sharma, director of the Jaipur Met office, this year’s rainfall is the highest in the past 49 years. Sharma noted that the average rainfall of 668.5mm is higher than the 665.4mm recorded from June 1 to September 15, 1975. The all-time record was set in 1917, with an average of 811mm.

This year’s rainfall is 61% more than the total of 414.5mm received during the entire monsoon season in 2023. Districts such as Bundi, Baran, Dausa, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Pratapgarh, and Tonk have received more than 1000mm of rain.

In detail, Dausa has received 1386.6mm, Sawai Madhopur 1278.4mm, Karauli 1228.5mm, Tonk 1108.6mm, Pratapgarh 1069.9mm, Baran 1063.6mm, Dholpur 1050.1mm, and Bundi 1050.5mm.

Jaipur has also experienced extraordinary rainfall this year. Many of the state's dams are nearly full, prompting the release of excess water from Bisalpur, Mahi, Bajaj Sagar, Jawahar Sagar, and Moral dams. The Meteorological office suggests that with a minor monsoon spell still expected, the state’s average rainfall could reach 700mm for the season.
