The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report 2022, highlighted that Rajasthan had the highest number of reported extortion and blackmail cases among Indian states. In the report, it is shown that Rajasthan had the most cases of extortion and blackmail in 2022, totaling 1,304. Odisha followed closely with 1,207 cases, and Maharashtra was third with 1,155 cases.
The Rajasthan police revealed the creation of an anti-gangster task force (AGTF) aimed at tackling organized criminal groups participating in extortion schemes. The AGTF will specifically keep a watch on gangs, such as Rohit Godara's, known for making threats and orchestrating shootings to extort money.
Yet, the new force faces challenges ahead. Rohit Godara, an associate of the infamous incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been threatening people in Rajasthan for extortion, causing turf wars in the state.
Rajasthan Police has set up an Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to tackle organized crime and prevent paper leaks in recruitment exams. AGTF, led by ADGP Dinesh MN, will work on identifying criminal groups and collaborate with national agencies. ADGP VK Singh heads SIT, tasked with investigating paper leaks, seizing assets, and preventing future leaks. The AGTF will specifically address the activities of criminal gangs like Lawrence Bishnoi, Rohit Godara, and Virendra Charan, responding to recent high-profile murders in the state.
