Rajsamand: Phool Sagar Breach Risk Prompts Evacuation

SDRF, police, and administration conduct overnight rescue ops; 610 residents evacuated as precautionary measure

Udaipur, Sept 6, 2025 - Two days of continuous heavy rainfall have worsened the situation in Rajsamand district. In the Kukarkheda Panchayat of Bhim subdivision, Phool Sagar has reached full capacity and a part of its embankment has been damaged, raising fears of a potential breach. Last evening, as the situation became critical, police and administrative officials reached the site and evacuated four villages as a precautionary measure.

Bhim Tehsildar Manoj Kumar said that owing to continuous rainfall in the Barar and Kukarkheda areas, a large lake has overflowed leading to water reaching the State highway. Meanwhile, Phool Sagar, located in Kaletra village, also overflowed and part of its embankment was damaged. Upon receiving the information, the administration  initiated immediate rescue operations.

Teams from SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), Disaster Management, Irrigation Department, Police and Revenue Department were deployed to the site. Nearly 610 people from the potentially affected villages — Amapato ka Badiya, Odia, Moda Kakar and Goma ka Badiya — were safely evacuated and shifted to safe locations including government schools and community halls.

Additional District Collector Naresh Bunkar, ASP Mahendra Pareek, DSP Paras Chaudhary and several other officials remained on-site throughout the night. Sandbags and soil sacks were used to reinforce the damaged embankment.

The good news is that rain stopped during the night, reducing the inflow of water and for now, the threat has subsided. The administration has, however, urged the public to stay alert and not to give in to rumours. For safety, police and SDRF teams remain deployed at the site.
