The forest department at Ranthambore Tiger Reserve has started the second phase of guide registration. This is for people from families who were moved out of the forest for tiger conservation. Document verification will happen for 162 shortlisted candidates on October 16 and 17 for the displaced category, and on October 21 and 22 for candidates from the Eco Development Committee (EDC).
In the displaced category, 36 men will be selected from 144 candidates, and 17 women will be chosen from 18 shortlisted candidates. In the EDC category, 80 men will compete for 20 positions, and 40 women will compete for 10 positions.
Divisional Forest Officer Ranbir Bhandari said this program helps provide jobs to families who were relocated. These guides get paid by the forest department and can also receive tips from tourists. Members of the EDC can apply for these guide jobs too.
Candidates must bring documents like their displacement certificate, unemployment proof, and ID cards for verification at the forest office. EDC candidates also need an EDC membership certificate, a recommendation letter, and other documents.
The forest department hopes this will help locals get involved in conservation efforts and find better job opportunities outside the forest. Wildlife experts support the program, saying it protects the forest and helps the community. Senior guide Vijaybhan Singh mentioned that seeing former forest residents working in better conditions inspires young people to move out too.
