Udaipur, February 12, 2025 - A Material Recovery Facility (MRF) has been set up in Ranthambore National Park (RNP) to recycle plastic waste. However, environmentalists are not satisfied because they say it violates laws and harms wildlife.
The facility is inside the core area of the tiger reserve, which is not allowed. Plastic bottles should not be allowed inside the park in the first place. Recycling plastic may encourage people to bring more plastic instead of reducing its use. Heavy machinery used in the facility can disturb animals in the park.
Tigress Sultana and her cubs are often seen near the facility. Tiger T-101 has also been spotted in this area. The facility is near Jhoomar Baori hotel, close to Zone 6 of the park. This is the first such recycling plant in India. It is set up with a private company to turn plastic waste into tiles and bricks. These will be used in industries later. Officials claim the facility follows all rules.
