Victims from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh Identified in Reasi Bus Attack

The district authorities are coordinating the transportation of the bodies back to their respective states

On Monday, June 10, 2024, authorities identified the nine victims of the fatal terror attack on a bus transporting pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district. The deceased included four individuals from Rajasthan and three from Uttar Pradesh. 

Among those affected were the bus driver, Vijay Kumar, hailing from Dasanoo Rajbagh village, and the conductor, Arun Kumar, from Kandera village in Katra, both situated within the Reasi district. The rest of the victims from Rajasthan included Rajinder Prasad Pandey Sawhney, Mamta Sawhney, Pooja Sawhney, and her two-year-old son Titu Sawhney, all residing in Jaipur.

In Uttar Pradesh, the victims were Shivam Gupta, Ruby, and 14-year-old Anurag Verma. The injured people are receiving treatment at various hospitals, with 18 at the Government Medical College in Jammu, 14 at Narayana Hospital, and 9 at the district hospital in Reasi. At approximately 6:10 pm on Sunday, June 9 militants shot at the bus, resulting from the gunfire, the bus swerved off the road and plunged into a deep ravine near Teryath village in the Poni area. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Reasi) Vishesh Paul Mahajan reported that 41 individuals, ranging from three to 50 years old, were injured in the attack. Ten of them had gunshot wounds but are now in stable condition following surgeries. Out of those injured, 34 are from Uttar Pradesh, 5 are from Delhi, and 2 are from Rajasthan. The district authorities are coordinating the transportation of the bodies back to their respective states.
