Delhi, February 20, 2025. First-time MLA, Rekha Gupta has been named as the leader of the BJP’s Delhi Legislative Assembly party. She will take oath as Chief Minister of Delhi today at the Ramlila Maidan in the national capital.
This announcement was made following a key legislative party meeting of top BJP leaders and the newly-elected 48 BJP MLAs yesterday, February 19. This came almost 11 days after the results of the Legislative Assembly elections of Delhi were declared. While several names were being discussed for the Chief Minister, prominent contenders included Parvesh Verma, Vijender Gupta, Ashish Sood, Pawan Sharma, Shikha Roy and Bansuri Swaraj.
Gupta was elected for the first time as an MLA from the Shalimar Bagh seat in Delhi constituency, beating her AAP opponent by 68,200 votes. The 50-year-old lawyer is now set to be the fourth women CM of Delhi, after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit and Atishi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled States, NDA leaders, Union Ministers, and other prominent personalities will attend the oath ceremony. Around 30,000 guests have been invited to the event which will include a cultural programme, too.
