A leopard rescue center is being established on 3 hectares within the Sajjangarh sanctuary
Residents and tourists in Udaipur will soon have the chance to observe reptile wildlife at the Sajjangarh Biological Park. The project is 80% complete, with plans to inaugurate it at the beginning of the new year. Ten species of reptiles will be housed in the park.
Nocturnal Enclosures for Night Creatures
Preparations are also underway for enclosures dedicated to nocturnal animals. Separate areas are being developed for various species, covering 0.2 hectares with a total of 20 sections. Approximately Rs 10.1 crore have been invested in this project.
Diverse Reptile Species on Display
The reptile section will include the Common Wolf Snake, Common Krait Snake, Green Keelback, Russell's Sand Boa, Common Sand Boa, Rat Snake, Common Cat Snake, Russell's Viper, and Star Tortoise. Visitors will be able to see all the snakes found in the state in one location, which will also support the conservation of rare reptiles. Boards outside each enclosure will provide information about the animals.
Upcoming Lion Safari in Sajjangarh Sanctuary
In addition to the biological park, a lion safari is being developed in the Sajjangarh Sanctuary. The enclosure, covering 5.19 square kilometers, is being built on approximately 20 hectares. A metal fence will surround the safari, followed by a wall for security.
The forest department has already transported a pair of lions from Gujarat for the safari. The total expenditure for this project is estimated at around Rs 3.50 Crore.
Leopard Rescue Center in the Works
Moreover, a leopard rescue center is being established on 3 hectares within the sanctuary. This center will feature modern technology, including 18 enclosures and night shelters for big cats, ensuring their safety and well-being.
