Rajasthan High Court intervenes for an amicable solution to the demands of the doctors
Udaipur, October 24, 2024 - After a Rajasthan High Court intervention yesterday, October 23, resident doctors in the State reached an arrangement with the authorities and ended their protest which had been going on for the last 17 days. The doctors were demanding increased security at their workplace and stipends. The Court appointed an amicus curiae and set up a committee to handle their complaints.
An eight-member committee, chaired by Secretary of Medical Education Ambrish Kumar, will propose solutions to the demands of the resident doctors. Based on the committee’s recommendations, an inter-departmental committee will make the final decision.
Yesterday morning, on October 23, a plea was made by advocate Parth Sharma in front of Justice Sameer Jain who was told of the plight of patients at hospitals owing to the strike. Justice Jain immediately sent out notices to the Principal Health Secretary, Medical Education Secretary, Medical Education Commissioner, the Principal of SMS Medical College and representatives of the Resident Doctors' Association (JARD), requiring them to appear before the Court by 2:00 pm.
Advocates Ajay Shukla and Shobhit Tiwari were appointed as court commissioners and sent to inspect the situation. After the third round of hearing, held at 4:00 pm yesterday, the court announced that the next hearing would be on November 21. It directed that the notices and actions taken against the resident doctors be suspended and no punitive measures were to be taken against them.
