As part of the State wide protest against Police action at Government hospital Ajmer, resident doctors at MB Hospital will also go on an indefinite strike from today.

Last week a female patient at Janana (Maternity) Hospital had accused a resident of misbehavior and her family members had lodged a Police complaint in that regard. Following that Police officials had gone to the hospital and interrogated resident doctors. This infuriated resident doctors. They said that the accusation were ill-founded and that if things continued this way, it would become difficult for male resident doctors to attend to female patients.

Resident doctors were also upset at the Police directly entering into the labour section of the hospital and ill-treatment of the doctors there. They said that Police did not take permission of College Principal or Hospital Superintendent. It was unfortunate that Police entered labour section where CCTV footage showed that women were waiting for delivery. This also amounted to flouting the privacy of women there. Residents are demanding action against the Policemen involved in the incident.

Lakhan Poswal, Superintendent at MB hospital said that considering the strike by resident doctors, they have made adequate arrangements so that there is no impact on serving the patients. In place of 350 resident doctors, 250 Professor and senior doctors will be taking over the duties. Poswal said that they will try and ensure that no operations are impacted.
