Udaipur, December 11,2024 - The Supreme Court said the trial for the RG Kar rape and murder case, happening in a Sealdah court, will likely finish in one month. A junior doctor was found dead in a seminar room at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9, 2024. The case is being handled by the CBI, as directed by the Calcutta High Court.
Day-to-Day Trial
The trial is being conducted every day from Monday to Thursday. So far, 43 out of 81 witnesses have given their statements in court.
Financial Investigation
The CBI also investigated financial irregularities at the medical college. A chargesheet (official document listing charges) has been filed, but the West Bengal government hasn’t yet allowed prosecution of the accused government officials.
Safety Recommendations
The Supreme Court asked a special group (National Task Force) to share suggestions with states to improve the safety of doctors. The group will give its final report in 12 weeks.
