Social activists Nikhil Dey, Kavita Srivastava, Dr Narendra Singh, and others criticized private hospitals for opposing the Right to Health (RTH) Bill, which would give free care in emergency wards in exchange for reimbursement from the state government.
The Bill was introduced in the Assembly in September 2022, but it was referred to a select committee when doctors objected. The state administration intends to reintroduce the Bill after a few adjustments are made during the current budget sessions.
In response to the Bill, private hospitals around Rajasthan have stopped providing treatment to patients under government programs such as the Chiranjeevi. Social activists asked private hospitals to go beyond profitability and contribute to saving human lives during a news conference.
Meanwhile, the protesting doctors have asked private hospitals and medical institutions not to renew their registrations under the state government's Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme.
