'Ring of Fire' Solar Eclipse Feb 17; Know Timings, Visibility Areas
The eclipse will not be visible in India, therefore there will be no restrictions on worship, rituals or auspicious activities in the country
Feb 17, 2026 - The first solar eclipse of 2026 will occur on Tuesday (February 17), on Phalguna Amavasya in the Aquarius (Kumbh) zodiac sign under Dhanishta Nakshatra. It will be an annular eclipse, also known as a “Ring of Fire” eclipse. This phenomenon happens when the Moon is too far from Earth to completely cover the Sun, leaving a thin, bright ring visible.
This celestial event will start at 3:26 pm IST and end at 7:57 pm. Its peak phase will be at 5:42 pm. The total duration of this eclipse will be about 4 hours 31 minutes and the Ring of Fire phase will last approximately 2 minutes 20 seconds.
This solar phenomenon will not be visible in India. The eclipse path will mainly pass through Antarctica,South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Namibia, Mauritius, Zambia, Argentina, Zimbabwe, Southern Ocean and some southern South American regions. The full Ring of Fire will be seen along a narrow path in Antarctica. Astronomy enthusiasts in India can watch the eclipse via live streams from observatories and space agencies.
In astrology, the Sun–Rahu conjunction (Sutak kaal) is traditionally considered inauspicious and commences 12 hour before the start of a solar eclipse. However, because the eclipse will not be visible in India, normal life is not expected to be affected. There will be no restrictions on worship, rituals or auspicious activities in India.
