E bhai zara dekh ke chalo… Likhe jo khat tujhe…Bas yehi apradh main har baar karta hoon…Mera mann tera pyasa…Dil aaj shayar hai… These are a few of the songs that were composed by noted Hindi poet and lyricist Gopaldas Neeraj who bid adieu to the world on 19^th July 2018.

Film industry mourns the demise of this soulful writer and composer. Neeraj was 93 years old and was suffering from lung infection. His condition deteriorated and he was shifted to AIIMS where he breathed his last. He was felicitated with Yash Bharti award by the UP Government. He also won Padma Shri (1991) and Padma Bhushan (2007). Gopal Das Neeraj was proficient in both Hindi and Urdu languages.

Born on January 4^th in 1925, he earned his living as a professor in Aligarh. In 2012, Neeraj became the Chancellor of Mangalayatan Univeristy in Aligarh.
