Two MBBS students from RNT Medical College have been restricted under Section 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) for circulating their teacher's mobile number on Instagram and subsequently threatening her. Prarthana, a professor and Head of the Anatomy Department at Udaipur’s RNT Medical College, reported to the police station after being bombarded with international calls and messages on March 23. The calls, initially ignored, escalated throughout the day, indicating a serious breach of privacy.
Shockingly, one of the callers informed the teacher that her number had been posted on Instagram for prank calls. Upon investigation it was revealed that the number was posted by two students of the 2022 batch of RNT College.
Fearing for her safety, the teacher sought help from Hathipol police station and verbally instructed the responsible students to remove the post. However, when the harassment continued, she informed the matter to the Cyber Cell on March 25.
Yashpal and Vijendra Singh Gurjar are currently second-year MBBS students. Taking into account their future and being a teacher, the complainant chose not to file any criminal charges against them. However, in order to prevent these students from repeating such mistakes in the future, the incident was reported to the police officer to ensure disciplinary action is taken.
Inspector Adarsh Kumar took charge of the case, leading to an investigation headed by Dharmpal. Subsequently, Yashpal Inkhya, 21, and Vijendra Singh Gurjar, 20, both students at RNT Medical College, were summoned and questioned regarding their actions.
Prank Gone Wrong
Yashpal and Vijendra confessed to posting the teacher's number on Instagram as a prank, citing academic pressure and they posted the number two days before the festival of Holi.
Due to getting supplementary in the subject taught by the victim, they posted teacher’s mobile number on Instagram. Despite being cautioned by the authorities, the students continued their behavior towards the complainant at the police station, displaying a lack of remorse or understanding of the severity of their actions.
Yashpal Inkhya and Vijendra Singh Gurjar were arrested under sections 107-151 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) due to suspicion of committing a cognizable offence. They were then presented before the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Udaipur city. As bail was not granted to them, they were placed under preventive detention.
