Central Government is to launch cashless treatment scheme; expected to be rolled out by March 2025
Udaipur, January 8, 2025 - The Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on January 7, 2025, that the central government will soon launch a modified scheme aimed at providing cashless treatment for road accident victims. The scheme, expected to be rolled out by March 2025, will entitle victims to a maximum amount of Rs 1.5 lakh per accident per person.
The government will cover the medical treatment costs for accident victims if the police are notified within 24 hours of the accident. The announcement comes in response to the alarming increase in road accident fatalities across the country.The government will give Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who die in hit-and-run accidents.
Gadkari emphasized that in 2024 alone, approximately 1.80 lakh people lost their lives due to road accidents, with 30,000 fatalities attributed to the failure to wear helmets. He mentioned that 66% of road accident victims belong to the age group of 18 to 34, highlighting the vulnerability of young people on the roads.
The new scheme is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities by providing timely medical assistance to accident victims.
