91 Lakh Beneficiaries of Social Security Pensions in Rajasthan: CM

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma interacts with senior citizens on International Day of Older Persons

UdaipurTimes, Oct 2, 2026 - Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma met and interacted with senior citizens at his residence on Thursday, October 1, on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons. He said that senior citizens have been direct witnesses to unprecedented changes over the past 75–80 years in every sphere, including science, development, food habits, clothing, social life and cultural values. He advised the younger generation to benefit from their experiences and understand the struggles and experiences of the past.

The Chief Minister informed that various social security schemes are being implemented to ensure the safety and self-reliance of senior citizens. In the State, more than Rs 1,100 crore is being distributed every month as social security pensions to around 91 lakh beneficiaries. In addition, 53 old-age homes and seven Sant Shravan Kumar Kalyan Seva Ashrams are being operated to provide medical care, education and other essential facilities to senior citizens. For the protection and social well-being of senior citizens, 36 Mukhyamantri Rehabilitation Homes and 17 Swayamsiddha Ashrams are also being operated.

Under the Ramashray Scheme, 61 Ramashray wards have been established in 61 district hospitals across Rajasthan to provide healthcare to senior citizens. Under the Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme, a total of 112,000 senior citizens have so far been taken on pilgrimage. He added that senior citizens aged 60 to 80 years are being provided a 50 per cent concession on fares on Roadways buses, while those aged 80 years and above are being provided free travel.

During the programme, the Chief Minister transferred a total of Rs 684.21 crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to 5,094,831 beneficiaries of old-age pensions under the Social Security Pension Scheme.

Senior citizens who have made significant contributions to social service were honoured while assistive devices were distributed to beneficiaries.
