Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Lalchand Kataria announced that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is set to inaugurate the "Lumpy Disease Economic Assistance Distribution" program on June 16, 2023. Approximately Rs 180 crore will be disbursed directly to the bank accounts of around 50,000 eligible dairy farmers as compensation for the loss of cows caused by lumpy disease.

During the upcoming Rajasthan Kisan Mahotsav, scheduled to take place on June 16 at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) in Sitapura, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the state-level "Lumpy Disease Economic Assistance Distribution" program, as announced by Minister Gulab Chand Kataria.

Minister Kataria acknowledged that the outbreak of lumpy disease had affected bovines nationwide, resulting in the loss of thousands of animals. However, recognizing the challenges faced by dairy farmers, the state government responded by announcing financial assistance for them in the budget. Minister Kataria highlighted that Rajasthan is leading the way as the first state to provide such financial assistance, emphasizing the need for other states to prioritize the welfare of cattle herders in a similar manner.

Minister Kataria announced the implementation of the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Pashu Bima Yojana, aimed at safeguarding dairy farmers from financial losses due to diseases like Lumpy. The scheme ensures that farmers can engage in animal husbandry without bearing significant risks. Under this program, two milch cows or buffaloes are eligible for free insurance coverage of up to Rs 40,000 per animal.
