The discussion over the new Parliament building reached the Supreme Court on Thursday May 25, 2023 as a Public Interest Litigation was filed before the top court seeking its direction that the inauguration should be done at the hands of the President of India. The recent news states that the Modi government will launch a Rs. 75 coin to mark the occasion of India’s new Parliament building.
The notification has been issued by the Finance Ministry which said that the coin will be 35-gram and will be circular in shape with a diameter of 44 mm. The coin’s front will glorify the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ written on it. As well as on the left side, India will be written in English. It will consist of a symbol of Rupee and 75 written in international numerals. The coin’s backside will feature an image of Parliament complex. Sansad Sankul will be written on the upper side and below it ‘2023’ will be inscribed and Parliament complex in English on the lower periphery.
The plea is filed by Advocate CR Jaya Sukin which states that the Lok Sabha Secretariat has humiliated the office of the President of India and violated the Constitution by not inviting the President to the event.
