Udaipur, January 20, 2025 – The Mumbai Crime Branch yesterday arrested a man in connection with the stabbing incident of actor Saif Ali Khan. Alleged to be an illegal Bangladesh immigrant, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Ameen Fakir (30) has been remanded to custody by the Court for five days following the police’s contention that an international conspiracy cannot be ruled out. A hammer, screwdriver, nylon rope and other items were recovered from his possession.

Initial probe, as per the police, suggests that the man’s intention was only theft and that he was unaware he had entered a Bollywood star’s house. Today, the police is expected to recreate the crime scene with the help of the accused.

Police said that when the accused heard on the TV that the person he had attacked was a Bollywood star, he had tried to flee. That night he slept at the Bandra bus stand until 7:00 am then took a train to Worli. He was ultimately caught at a labour camp in Thane after a three-day intense search by multiple Mumbai police teams.

The detainee is reportedly from the Jhalokati district in southern Bangladesh.

While the cops claim Shehzad had been living in Mumbai and nearby areas for the past five months, the defence lawyers have denied allegations of his being a Bangladeshi and said: “The police have no evidence to prove my client is from Bangladesh. He has been living in Mumbai for over seven years with his family. The claim that he entered six months ago is baseless”. The lawyer claimed that Shehzad had legal documents to stay in India and his family also resides here.
