Salary Cut for those at the echelons of power – What about the freebies?
The Cabinet today approved an ordinance to reduce salaries of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and Member of Parliament by 30% for an year. If need by, the salary cut can be extended beyond a year.
This cut along with a two-year suspension of MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme can go to the Consolidated Fund of India to fight COVID-19, as per Prakash Javedkar, Minister of Information and Broadcasting.
However, apart from the cut in salaries, there has been no mention of the freebies to those in the higher echelon of power, which pull out a significant amount of liquidity from the exchequer.
