Sand Traders protest against HC stay

A protest by workers and labour employed in the sand trade undertook an agitation under the banner of ‘Udaipur Reti Truck Union’. Subsequent to the stay by the High Court the agitation was carried out with the joint support of the BMS (Bhartiya Mazdor Sandh). A mass rally was taken out and demonstration took place outside the Collectorate. The demonstrators also presented a memorandum to the District Collector to be forwarded to the Chief Minister.

Today, hundreds of workers and labourers involved in the selling and mining of sand protested against the High Court stay more than week ago on the business stating that it is increasing pollution. This stay has allegedly affected the daily livelihood of thousands of people.

Sand Traders protest against HC stay According to the information there are around 5 lac people engaged in this particular business to earn their living, while the Union claimed that the State Government was biased in allocating the rights, due to which the stay was imposed. The final statement of the High Court will be taken on 16 th April, 2012. Due to the stay, construction work in the state has also been adversely affected, as sand is the most important composition of the process. Both private and government projects are being delayed along with increasing unemployment in the masses. Nathkhe Khan Pathan, President, Udaipur Reti Truck Union said, “if we are increasing pollution then what about the big chemical industries and other industrial units. If the High Court decision is not taken in our favour, we will be carrying out an Udaipur Bandh”.
