Lifestyle as Heritage – a two day exhibition concluded today at Baghore ki Haveli. The exhibition was held by Student architecture groups from Bharti Vidyapeeth Mumbai and The Ecole National Supérieure of Architecture of Paris La Villette (ENSAPLV) France.
The group of students showcased their proposals based on intense research of Udaipur city they did in past months which not only helps in conserving the rich heritage and architecture but also accommodate the futuristic lifestyle.
The proposals include complete architectural layout of how to implement the changes, restoration and construction which will ease traffic condition and protect the heritage buildings, havelis and lake shores.
Prof. Ritu Deshmukh of Bharti Vidyapeeth mentions that, “Without the help of people and citizens of Udaipur city, the students wouldn’t have gained rich experience. They could come up with good proposals and ideas only by sharing thoughts from locals.”
A group presented by Hemant, Mudra, Janhavi and Christelle gave idea of connecting Chandpole to Brahmpole through a bypass connectivity to resolve the current congestion of traffic. Similarly many more innovative and sustainable ideas have been proposed by other group of students.
Proposals:
-To connect lake side ghats for alternative mode of water transport by means of small boats to open new ways of movement thereby decongesting road traffic.
-To preserve and prevent the sale of Havelis to convert into hotels and give alternative revenue generation ideas thereby protecting lakecity from becoming hotel city.
-Places which are abandoned in various mohallas and poles to be used for public seating and gathering spaces for senior citizens women and children play area.
-To showcase the traditional arts and crafts to preserve heritage character of havelis and old houses of Lake City. By opening new art institute to train future generation and to get connected with their traditions.
-Since many women don’t get a chance to show their talent in Art, Music and Dance, so a small scale platform by creating a women empowerment center would help them share their knowledge with community and contribute in revenue for their own family.
With Ritu, other faculties who came for this workshop were Prof. Pierre Bouche, Ceilia Lebasby, Youngsoon Choi from ENSAPLV and Prof. Gulshan Kumar and Prof. Taher Rangwala from BVCOA Navi Mumbai.
The exhibition was visited by district administrative officers including district collector Ashutosh Pednekar and Mayor Rajni Dangi.
