The Supreme Court, on 13 August, closed contempt proceedings against Patanjali Ayurveda and its founders Ramdev and Balakrishna. The company had violated its earlier commitments of not broadcasting misleading advertisements about the company's products and after contempt proceedings were initiated, the company and its top brass viz Ramdev and Balakrishna gave undertakings on refraining from the same in the future.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had filed a plea with the apex court, wherein they had alleged that Patanjali was involved in broadcasting misleading information on the COVID Vaccine, as well as the capabilities of its product to fight against COVID, without any scientific evidence. The SC, after hearing the plea, had directed the company to refrain from doing so and pull down all such advertisements. However, the company continued this practice, resulting in contempt of court.
