The Supreme Court has intervened in the matter of a five-star hotel built on a plateau within Udaipur's Udaisagar Lake, directing the state government to provide a report on the public interest petition filed. Specifically, the court has requested information on the status of the hotel construction and its potential environmental impact, including effects on the lake.

During the recent hearing of the public interest petition, presided over by Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Deepankar Datta, the bench scheduled the case to be listed in September 2024. Additionally, they instructed the submission of a status report within six weeks. Advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner, emphasized that the construction of the hotel within the lake violates Wetland Rules.

Bhushan also highlighted a significant report from 2017 by a UIT Expert Committee, which warned about the adverse effects of constructing walls around the island (Top) within the lake. The petition, filed by the Lake Conservation Committee, raised concerns about Vardha Enterprises' purchase of agricultural land on the island back in 2008. Approval for resort construction was granted by altering the land use, as mentioned in the petition.
