May 15, 2025 – A fierce gunbattle is going on since early morning today, May 15, in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, as Indian security forces try to flush out terrorists holed up in the Tral area. This information was shared by Kashmir Police on their social media platform.

According to details given by the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, a search operation had been launched by the Army, J&K Police and Srinagar Sector CRPF after "Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened heavy fire and fierce gunfight ensued."

The encounter broke out after a search party of security forces were looking for suspicious elements based on specific intelligence input.

This is the second encounter in 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir after three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces under Operation Keller  in Shopian on May 13.

Several search operations are being carried out in the region on a regular basis after the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, in which 26 people were killed.
