Basement Misused for Coaching Classes Sealed in Udaipur

Udaipur Municipal Corporation seals building for unauthorized use and construction; importance of adhering to building laws

Coaching Center

Udaipur, January 10, 2025 - The Udaipur Municipal Corporation sealed a building in Sector-4 on Thursday, January 9, 2025. The action was taken after the basement, approved for parking, was found being used for coaching classes. Additionally, unauthorized commercial and residential activities were conducted on various floors, and a fifth floor was constructed without approval. The building owner had started Lakshya Coaching Classes in the basement. This violation created issues for proper parking space in the area.

The operation of coaching classes in basements is banned in many areas due to safety concerns. This regulation is often enforced to address risks such as potential flooding, poor ventilation, and the absence of emergency exits in such spaces. Running a coaching center in a basement without proper permits or compliance with building codes is generally considered illegal in these regions.

Unauthorized Floors and Activities

The approved building plan allowed commercial activities on the ground and two floors, with residential use on the third and fourth floors. However, the owner was running commercial activities on the third and fourth floors, violating the approved usage.

The fifth floor of the building was constructed without any permission from the Municipal Corporation, further breaching the regulations.

Action Under Rajasthan Municipality Act, 2009

Commissioner Ramprakash stated that the action was taken under Section (7)(ch) of the Rajasthan Municipality Act, 2009. The Corporation sealed the basement, third, fourth, and fifth floors of the building as a corrective measure.

The Municipal Corporation emphasized the importance of following approved building plans to ensure proper urban management and safety. Authorities have warned of strict action against similar violations in the future.
