This move comes in the wake of increasing hoax bomb threat calls to Indian airlines
October 28, 2024 - In view of the continuing spate of bomb threat calls to Indian airlines, the government has intensified security protocols across the country putting several safety measures in place.
A Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) team has been deployed at major airports by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the counter-terrorism law enforcement agency. This unit is specially equipped and trained to respond quickly to any reported threats or emergencies.
Additionally, NIA's cyber wing is in the process of intensive analysing of foreign threat calls for authenticity. It is working closely with several other security agencies on this matter.
Security agencies have reported receiving more than 400 hoax calls in the past two weeks alone. Yesterday, October 27, at least 50 flights operated by Indian airlines received bomb threats, say sources. This has raised major concerns about the possible effects on national security and passenger safety.
