UIDAI plans to launch QR-based App which will help user update address, mobile number, etc., sitting at home
June 21, 2025 - Updating your Aadhaar card will soon become an effortless task. You will no longer be required to make repeated visits to Aadhaar centres. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is preparing to launch a new QR code-based mobile app that will allow users to update Aadhaar details from home. Through this app, you will be able to change your address, mobile number, name and date of birth.
With the exception of submitting fingerprint and iris scans, all other Aadhaar-related tasks will be doable from home via the app. This new facility is expected to be launched by November 2025.
The new QR code-based app will also allow users to share complete or partial Aadhaar information from one mobile to another or from app to app. It can be used for various verification purposes - like checking into hotels, buying a mobile SIM card or during train travel - without the need to submit a physical Aadhaar photocopy.
The app is seen as a major step in preventing misuse of Aadhaar data. It will give Aadhaar holders full control over their personal information, which can only be shared with their explicit consent.
The system will also be linked to databases like birth certificates, matriculation certificates, driving licenses, passports, PAN, PDS and MNREGA records to auto-fetch address and identity details. This will help prevent the use of forged documents.
Plans are also underway to integrate electricity bills into the system. Additionally, UIDAI is in discussions with CBSE and other educational boards to enable biometric updates for children via this app.
