In Udaipur, concerns are mounting over sewage contaminating water bodies like Pichola Lake, and Kumhariya and Rangsagar ponds. Multiple points continue to allow sewage into these natural reservoirs, hindering efforts to purify their water through sewage lines. The ongoing leakage in sewer lines and sanitary manhole exacerbates the situation.
Recently, Kumhariya Pond faced a critical issue as a damaged manhole of a sewer line was discovered, depleted by low water levels. If left unrepaired before the onset of monsoon rains, this damage could result in the unnecessary drainage of purified pond water into the city's drains.
Tejashankar Paliwal, a prominent lake conservationist, has notified district administration officials, Smart City authorities, and the municipal corporation about this urgent matter. Recommendations are being made to prioritize repairs to the damaged manhole to safeguard the precious water resources of these iconic Udaipur water bodies.
