Sewer System Issues Persist Despite Crores Spent in Udaipur

Udaipur Pichola Pollution

Udaipur, January 7, 2025 - Despite spending crores on a new sewer line under the Smart City project, problems in Udaipur's old city remain unresolved. Sewage is still flowing into lakes, roads are littered with filth, and residents are suffering due to poorly executed sewer works.

Sewage Contaminating Lakes and Roads

In many areas, sewage continues to flow directly into Lake Pichola. Even after disconnecting old lines dumping sewage into the lakes, the issue persists. Residents have reported water from the lakes entering old sewer lines, while drainage from hotels and homes flows unchecked into the lakes.

Filth in Ambavgarh Kachi Basti

Outside Hotel Natural in Ambavgarh Kacchi Basti, roads are covered with sewage and filth. Borewells in the area have also become contaminated, making it difficult for residents to step outside their homes.

False Claims by Officials

Officials claim to have resolved the issue of sewage entering Lake Pichola, but residents and lake enthusiasts have exposed the ground reality. Sewage continues to flow into the lake in several places, and there has been no action against hotels dumping waste into the water.

Lake enthusiasts like Tejashankar Paliwal and Anil Mehta have pointed out several flaws in the sewage system in these points:

  • Brahmpol Gate
  • Bhattwadi to Kumhariya Tatab Line
  • Barighat (Chandpol Parking)
  • Roopsagar
  • Ambamata Kachi Basti

Municipal Corporation's Role

Udaipur Municipal Corporation is currently managing clogs and blockages, but the responsibility for maintaining the new sewer line lies with the installation company. If the Corporation steps back, the company’s poor execution will be fully exposed.

Residents demand immediate action to resolve these issues and protect Udaipur’s lakes and roads from further damage.
