Waiting for the decision on petrol boat operated by hotels now

To combat pollution and promote eco-friendly transportation, solar-powered boats have been introduced in Pichola Lake, replacing the old petrol-diesel boats. This initiative comes after the intervention of the High Court, which mandated the removal of petrol-diesel boats from the lakes within six months.

On Wednesday, April 24,2024, three solar boats, each capable of carrying 60 to 70 people, arrived at the shores of Pichola Lake. These boats, powered by solar energy and batteries, will soon be deployed into the lake, with their routes determined for operation. As part of this transition, the number of boats in the lake has been reduced. Previously, there were 18 petrol-diesel boats in operation, but now only 15 boats will operate, including a rescue boat and two special boats designated for specific routes within the lake.

The decision to switch to solar-powered boats follows a tender issued by the corporation for operating eco-friendly boats. However, no decision has been made regarding boats operated by hotels in the area. Presently, there are still petrol-operated boats running in Pichola Lake, awaiting further instructions or replacements.

The introduction of solar-powered boats marks a significant step towards environmental conservation and sustainable tourism in Pichola Lake. With the reduction of petrol-diesel boats and the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives, the authorities aim to preserve the natural beauty of the lake while ensuring responsible tourism practices.
