The Officer, Sanjeev Singh Rathore, who belongs to Udaipur and is the co-Pilot of the ship has been in communication with his wife in Udaipur.

Shweta Singh Rathore from Udaipur, is the wife of Merchant Navy Officer Sanjeev Singh Rathore and has appealed to the administration and government to help evacuate the crew of M/V Marin moored at a port in Cyprus.

As per the information provided by Shweta as well as the details received from Sanjeev, the matter relates to the sale of the ship M/V Marin. The ownership of the ship has exchanged hands, leaving the crew stranded with no salaries for three months and dearth of food and water for the last 5 days. The ship with the crew is stranded at port Famagusta in Cyprus. Sanjeev Singh is the second officer while Vijay Swami is the Chief Officer. Aleksandr Boiko from Russia is the Captain (Master).

The Master of the Ship, Aleksandr Boiko, in his letter dated 2 September to the port authorities at Famagusta has explained the condition of the ship and the crew and has asked for permission to disembark at Famagusta. They have also asked for help for the crew members to get to their homes as well as get paid for the duration as per their contract terms.

Shweta, in the meanwhile, in a video address as well as letter to the Ministry of External Affairs has asked the Indian government to provide help to her husband and his fellow crew members. There are 10 Indian and 3 persons of other nationalities on board M/V Marin. While the crew members are not getting any apparent assistance from the Cyprus authorities, it is possible that the intervention of the the Min. of External Affairs leads to the rescue of the crew who are stranded for over a month now, says Shweta. The owers of M/V Marin are pressurising the crew to disembark and leave for Libya, while the Indian advisory is not comfortable with this option and has advised for return to India. MP from Udaipur Arjun Lal Meena has also assured of support.

As per reports, the ownership of M/V Marin is with a Libyan company. The earlier name of this ship was SC Atrea and was owned by a Nowaegian shipping company, Skyways Atlantis.

The other crew members include Vijay Sekhran from Tamil Nadu, Sunil from Maharashtra, Chandan Kumar and Risabhraj from Bihar, Prateek Gaur from UP, Yogesh from Haryana, Binu Thomas and Sumesh Sudhakaran from Kerala; Mahboob Jahedi from West Bengal, Husam Najar from Italy and Clistov from Ukraine.
